School History

Droitwich (Ho Sin Sul) Taekwon_do was originally founded in 1999 by Mr Wayne Lewis 4th Degree and Mr Simon Donkin. The School was originally situated at Witton School running on a Tuesday and a Thursday evening and has always been very successful at turning out experienced martial artists.

In 2003 we had our first Black Belt, Miss Stevie Gosling, who was trained from beginner through to 1st Degree black belt. Over the next 5 year Miss Gosling progressed through to 3rd Degree black belt. Miss Gosling was the first of many successful martial artists grading from beginner to senior grades with the school.

In 2007 the school was joined by Miss Sally Gleaves as a 3rd Degree black belt after training previously with another instructor. Then in 2009 the school moved to a new venue, Physique Fitness, which was much more suitable for training purposes. The School has steadily grown and has now incorporated a MMA/Street fighting style class alongside regular classes on a Tuesday and Thursday.

In 2010 the school changed its name from GTI Droitwich to Ho Sin Sul Taekwondo, literally translating from the Korean as Self Defence Taekwondo as this is one of the major studies within the school. It was also decided to turn the School into an academy.

In 2011 Mr Wayne Lewis decided to make Miss Sally Gleaves joint head instructor with himself because of her commitment and contribution to the Academy.

In 2014 Mr Lewis stepped down from the club and has left it under the management of Miss Gleaves, the club is now taught under the ITF style of Taekwon-Do as an independent school.

Our Philosophies

Droitwich Taekwon-Do is a non profit school, it is not our aim to make money out of our students and neither of the instructors are dependent on the money made at the school (we both have our own careers outside of martial arts). We leave the money making martial arts
practice to more unscrupulous practitioners, we purely run the school for the love of the art.

We believe in giving the best instruction possible to those willing to learn. If students are forced to attend by parents then these are not willing students and are very rarely willing to push themselves.

We absolutely will not tolerate any form of bullying in or out of the dojang (training hall). Any student who has been found to be performing this will be asked to leave the school. Any student who is being bullied at school will be tutored to combat the bullying.

We have the stance that if we can teach our students to be better than ourselves, then we have succeeded as instructors

Students are always taught to be realistic on their own capabilities and are never deluded into thinking they are invulnerable when a black belt is achieved and are always taught to respect other martial arts, martial artists and martial art associations.

Ho Sin Sul translates from the Korean as ‘Self Defence’ we believe that all students should have an advanced understanding of self defence and at least a basic understanding of grappling and floor work as it is very rare for any street fight to remain upright.
